This week, I returned to Thornhill House in the small Peak District village of Great Longstone for the third time... what a lovely home it is!
Thornhill House was built in 1994 and is run by The John Thornhill Memorial Trust, founded by Molly Thornhill in memory of her husband. The aim of the home is to provide nursing and residential care to local people of the village and surrounding areas, so that they do not have to move far away from their community. Thornhill House also have a team of volunteers who deliver meals-on-wheels to the local elderly.
The ethos of the home is just wonderful, and you can tell that it is run as a non-for-profit... the frantastic staff to resident ratio is like nowhere I have seen before. I love seeing staff members pop their head in the lounge during the singing sessions, including the hardworking carers, admin, and domestic staff, and even the chefs sometimes say hello! And of course the lovely activities co-ordinator Sonia is just wonderful.
I am looking forward to returning to Thornhill House in November, and at Christmas for a Christmassy sing-song. I can't wait to see all the lovely residents again!
Thank you for having me Thornhill House X
