3rd November Dementia-Friendly Coffee Concert

What a magical morning yesterday was 🤩🎵👏 So many people turned up…we had to put out extra chairs and tables!

My aim was to create an informal café-style concert which was fully accessible to those living with dementia and their carers and families, as music is such a wonderful form of therapy and there aren’t many events which people feel comfortable enough to attend.

It was wonderful to meet new people who had heard about the concert through word of mouth, and the magazine/newspaper articles. As well as being reunited with friendly faces from local Buxton care homes and the Still Waters Dementia Cafe.

I was also moved to tears to hear that two lovely ladies came along, who’d both lost their husbands to dementia, just to support the event. And a few carers came even without their loved ones, just to enjoy a bit of music and have a chance to relax themselves.

I am so grateful for every opportunity to sing! 🎤🎶

Thank you so much to the wonderful team of volunteers Nathan, Nick, Lynn, and James… it wouldn’t have ran smoothly without you! And thank you to Mavis for baking so many delicious cupcakes for us all to enjoy! 🧁☕️ Also a shout out to Barbara and Meg who were always on hand to help ☺️

Now…I shall get organising the next one…stay tuned! 👏
